Minor/Supporting Major Studies
The minor study program consists of a prescribed set of 6 units plus 2 elective units in a separate area of study. Students choosing to undertake a supporting major study program will complete 8 units offered in another area of study. We recommend that students choose the Australian Association for Exercise and Sports Science (AAESS) Special Accreditation Supporting Major as their minor/supporting major choice. This program has been developed specifically to allow graduates to gain both AAESS accreditation as well as entry into the Graduate Diploma of Education because it includes 2 alternative science courses. This pathway offers the greatest level of flexibility for employment opportunities.
AAESS Exercise and Sports Science Professional Accreditation Supporting Major
(Available to Exercise & Sports Science students only)
The advantage of completing the AAESS course structure include 1) obtaining automatic AAESS membership, 2) obtaining sufficient qualification to entered the Graduate Diploma of Education program to become a Physical Education Teacher, and 3) being eligible to upgrade your qualification by completing a fourth year of study. The last option awards you with AAESS accredited Bachelor of Science (Exercise Science Rehabilitation) degree which will make you eligible to become an AAESS Accredited Exercise Physiologist. See recent media release for more information.
Students must complete four Performance Studies units, a Research Methods unit and three units from a list of AAESS approved units.
EBH1101 Human Anatomy is a pre/co-requisite for the Professional Accreditation units of this minor. You should complete this unit in your first semester of study within your Sports Science course structure prior to commencement of this supporting major.
